December 2014 – The Year in Review
If you are a busy working parent, as I am, you’re probably as guilty as me of failing to fully appreciate your achievements as they happen. There’s that never ending to-do list to tick off, and once one thing is done you’re already moving onto the next, with very little time to reflect.
Yet when I actually forced myself to find a moment, just to stop and consider what KW Photography has achieved in 2014, I was slightly stunned. I realised that I have been on the most fantastic journey. What a year!
It all began in January when I was named as The Guild of Photographers’ ‘2013 Photographer of the Year’! That was a huge moment for me personally and professionally. It was then that I realised how far I had come since deciding to pursue a career in photography just a few years previously. I was actually being taken seriously as a professional photographer, securing great clients, building credibility among my peers and producing award winning work…get me!!!
That’s when it all went a little bit crazy! News of the award win grabbed the attention of the local business press and bookings from local families began to increase. Then the national press also latched onto the story. A large article with a selection of my newborn photographs appeared in The Daily Mail newspaper and, being online too, this then reached an international audience as well. Before I knew it I was being interviewed for TV programmes and radio chat shows and my photos were being published in glossy magazines and online all around the world! Crazy times!
The boost in my profile this year also led to me developing an exciting partnership with national baby brand MAM UK. I’ve recently completed a commission, photographing their new range of dummies, and the photos are being used on national advertising, packaging and in social media campaigns! Most importantly they have been thrilled with the photos, and that makes me a very happy lady!
I’m also thrilled to have become one third of the team behind The Baby Whisperer Academy this year, working alongside two leading photographers in the field of newborn portraiture. We regularly train other professional photographers in the art of newborn photography. Through this I’ve met so many lovely people who are working in this wonderful industry and am grateful to be able to now call many of them friends.
Then to add to all this I’ve been invited to join and am in discussions with a national photographic equipment brand to become an official ambassador for them! 2015 certainly has a lot to live up to!
Have a great New Year everyone. Thanks for reading my blog, and I hope you continue to follow the adventures of KW Photography into 2015 and beyond. Here’s hoping it will be the best year yet!
